Finally saved enough money to complete this project. Did the Smoke Test with the Intel i7 12700 CPU and Samsung 1TB 980 m2 pcie ssd. Booted find. Updated to the latest bios. Good. Ready to install Windows 10. Great MB

price was much cheaper than i thought for the 12th gen. really felt the difference of 12th gen. was impressed to see the fan too. would recommend for all general users, worth the upgrade and no need for GPU if you are not a hardcore gamer
A fantastic and quiet upgrade for my PC
After about a decade, it was time for me to replace my old LGA1155 build with modern components. A major factor in my decision when buying components was noise. My previous build was only intended for gaming, where noise is largely unavoidable. I wanted this new build to also be my Plex server and run quietly enough under light load so as to be unnoticeable. The 12th generation Intel i7 processors appealed to me because they have efficiency cores that presumably use less power. I also did some research between 65w vs 125w chips. While it's still unclear to me how much the lower watt chip helps here given they both are able to idle and throttle significantly, lower = less power = cooler seems to still be the prevailing logic so I opted for the Intel Core i7-12700. Another factor worth considering was that this model comes with a decent stock cooling fan, while the 12700k does not. After a few weeks of use, I can safely say that this new PC build is hardly noticeable. I am very happy with my purchase. I will add one bit of advice. As someone who last installed a CPU about a decade ago, I was surprised how difficult it was to determine how the CPU should be oriented in the socket. Where as older CPUs I've installed have a very clear notch, this CPU is very much symmetrical with an easy-to-miss etched triangle to indicate orientation. While this is probably common nowadays and is labeled in the included manual, I wanted to give anyone reading here a heads up.
