Darkglass Electronics DAX7 Overview
Bring the power of modern studio bass recording to your feet with the gray Darkglass Electronics Microtubes X7, a versatile bass preamp with a host of useful features. Sporting separate high and low level controls, low-pass and high-pass filters, and flexible I/O, the X7 is a universal tool for studio or stage.
With the four main rotary knobs, you can control the amount of low-end compression, low-pass output level, high-pass output level, and high-pass distortion level. Five convenient studio-style sliders let you adjust master volume and two peaking and two shelving filters (80 and 500 Hz, and 1 and 5 kHz). You can also adjust the high- and low-pass filter frequencies. Along with standard instrument input and output, the X7 includes a balanced XLR output (ideal for sound systems and audio interfaces), and a parallel 1/4" output for parallel processing. A handy ground-lift control lets you eliminate hum that may arise from the balanced output.
- High-pass frequency controls the cutoff frequency to be distorted, ranging from 100 Hz for thicker, fuzzier saturation to 1 kHz for ultrasharp definition
- Low-pass frequency controls the cutoff frequency to be mixed back to the high-pass side, ranging from 50 for sub-bass only to 500 Hz to preserve some clean mids
- Each EQ control slider offers ±12 dB at each frequency point
- 1/4" input for instrument or pedalboard
- 1/4" output for amps or other FX pedals
- XLR 3-pin direct output, useful for sending signal to PAs or studio mixing consoles
- Parallel output offers a passthrough, useful for parallel processing
