SanDisk Professional Shuttle 4 External HDD Reviews
Great storage
I'm a video editor for many years and storage has become an issue. The hard drives keep piling up. I invest in this G-RAID system and it's a wonderful drive it is very fast, transferring 770GB in 23 minutes. I tested it by editing a variety of codecs and file sizes and it holds up.I recommend this for video editors and photographers.
Typical Delivers
When I need large or small items for my professional color correction work I ALWAYS reach out to . I've ordered from for over 20 years and there has NEVER been a problem. Quick delivery and the gear always works coming out of the box. They are the best.
Great drive
Extremely well packed and protected for shipping. Plugged in right out of the box and works great! I chose this because it should be a long-lived drive. If one of the hard drives fails or has problems the system alerts you so a new drive can be plugged in without missing a beat.
SO MUCH DATA!
AWESOME!
Working Well
I plugged it into a 2017 iMac Pro (I comes with the right cable). It's preconfigured as raid 5 and you get about 18TB of storage -- formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Speed at that configuration in photo screenshot. The included manual is for software/driver setup. I can't find instructions on how to reconfigure the raid on the website. The software didn't have any way to reconfigure that I could find. Please post a link if you find one.
Not safe with Mac M1
Apple's M1-based computers require your G-RAID software to override kernel permissions and other security barriers that are not recommended (setting your Boot to "Reduced Security" and Allowing All Kernel Extensions). I reached out to Apple and a senior advisor said to NEVER allow these settings to change - it apparently puts your connection and computer at much higher risk. Only on the M1 though. Hoping the $2K spent on this can be reimbursed.
Good with caveats
I've been running this drive hard for a few months with 4K footage and a HUGE project. It handles as an editing drive pretty well and has the storage and redundancy I'm looking for with multiple projects going at once (I of course back up to separate drives as well). The most annoying thing is that the drive fans don't turn off. Ever. Whether the computer is on or off makes no difference. The drive is on 100% of the time, and even when the computer is off, the drive cycles on and off continuously. I contacted the manufacturer and was told to just unplug it when not it use. Coming from a pegasus which turned on and off with my computer, this feels ridiculous given the price tag.
easy to use, strong and safe
It's a little louder than I had expected at first but i got used to it. works great, setting up the raid was simple and I don't have to worry about anything - trust.
