SanDisk Professional Shuttle 4 External HDD Reviews
Great solution for professionals videographer&Photographer
Securely execute my video production workflow from creating projects to backing up footage. And good speed for 4k video editing.
DO NOT BUY
This destroyed my $1500 Lenovo laptop. I spent 45 min with tech support trying to format this thing on my PC. Eventually, after multiple failed attempts the drive was formatted (not sure how it actually happened). The G-Raid Software constantly crashes requiring manual restarts. Finally, I tried to use this on my laptop instead to see if it was just my PC. My laptop immediately shutdown and won't power on.
G RAID Shuttle will not mount on Mac M1
Recently upgraded to Mac Studio. The two G Tech RAID systems I use for media storage will not mount. Seems many others are having the same issue and cannot get a solution. The units will appear connected in System report, but will not boot. These G-Tech RAIDs will mount on older Macs, but not Mac Studio. Support or contact with Western Digital is futile.
M1 Work Around!
Mounting RAIDS to the Apple M1 has been a real mind bender for me. Lots and lots of time on phone with Apple support and Sandisk. I finally figured out a great work around. Daisy chain it via a drive that works with your M1! That's how to make it mount. I'm going through a TB3 12 G-RAID (which does mount) and using that as the conduit to get the 160TB Shuttle XL to mount. It works!!
The worst purchased!
It is not plug and play if you have m1 Mac . Do your own research. I have bought many gear but this time is disappointing. Lesson learned!!
Great storage
I'm a video editor for many years and storage has become an issue. The hard drives keep piling up. I invest in this G-RAID system and it's a wonderful drive it is very fast, transferring 770GB in 23 minutes. I tested it by editing a variety of codecs and file sizes and it holds up.I recommend this for video editors and photographers.
Very easy to set up
I went through 6 months of research before purchasing this product. The computer department at helped me through much of my questions. Ask to speak to Sam. I was able to set up this storage device in about 15 minutes. Once set up, it looks and operates just like a normal external drive via Mac's Finder app. While I don't have a M1 Mac to confirm, I called and spoke to Sandisk and they said that all you need to do is update the drivers on your computer, as noted on the website. While I have not used the product long enough to give a more thorough review, so far I recommend this for a small to medium size production company who needs to have their data backed up in one place.
G RAID very nice
Works great! Happy to have my footage stored in a RAID. The only issue I had was trying to set this thing up. There seems to be pretty much zero info online about the software that you use with the RAID and how to set it up. I fumbled about for a couple days and eventually figured things out. Goodluck to anyone who is new to these devices and setting them up.
