SmallRig Mini Matte Box Overview
Add a compact, lightweight matte box to your rig with the Mini Matte Box from SmallRig. The clamp-on matte box fits small mirrorless or DSLR cameras and is made from durable but lightweight carbon fiber material. It accepts multiple 4 x 5.65" filters and comes with one filter tray and four adapter rings to attach the matte box to the lens. The maximum load capacity of the matte box is 2.2 lb.
The included carbon fiber top flag helps block veiling glare or bright reflections from striking your lens, and it can be folded down to cover the front of the matte box and provide protection to the front of your lens. There are multiple 1/4"-20 threads on top of the matte box that allow you to mount additional accessories. You can also mount it onto your rig using an optional 15mm LWS rod clamp that attaches to the bottom 1/4"-20 threads on the matte box frame.
The matte box features a 95mm diameter opening, and the included 67, 72, 77, and 82mm threaded adapter rings allow you to use the matte box with lenses of different sizes and diameters. A separately available adapter ring kit can be used for additional lens sizes.

SmallRig Mini Matte Box Reviews
Lives up to its name
Definitely light and mini. Nothing can really prepare you for how light and small it truly is until you get it into your hands and on your lens. Great top flag. Nice that you can add an optional second filter tray. I also like that you can use threaded filters as well.
Not worth it
This feels like a piece of poorly designed rubbish in my opinion. Getting the MB on and off the rings is janky and clumsy, the screws and tightening all feel rough and low quality. I regretted the purchase as soon as I got it, although maybe this will be the right price & function for some, not for me!
Fantastic
Excellent mattebox for light handheld work, but not perfect for matte. Variable ND filters will be accessible from the front but levers on an 82mm VND will have to be removed. If you are not using slide in filters, flaring will be reduced. The slide in filters will be exposed to direct light so its not the best for the matte effect when using them, but it will still work. Regardless, its a really good price and works very well considering what it can do. I have this one for quick handheld shooting outdoors and I have the standard lightweight mattebox with the deeper hood for when I need flares reduced further when using slide in filters.
Perfect match
I have order all the smallrig dark olive attachments for my bmpcc 4K and this lite box fits and matches perfectly with the color. It's the same as the mini box except it's lighter and does not have the bulk attachments option around the box.
It does what it promises
I shoot with Pana GH5 and Nikon D780 cameras with ND filters and, sometimes, a polarizer. This mini matte box works perfectly for me, even hand-handling the cameras. If its features are what you need, it's a great choice.

One of the best matte boxes I have used. Can confirm you are able to screw on filters ones the matte box is attached, which is a worry for most. It's super light and gets the job done, will probably order a second for our B camera.
