Schoeps DESERT ISLAND SET MK 22 Overview
The matte-gray Schoeps Desert Island Stereo Set with MK 22 Capsules is a versatile microphone kit designed for capturing high-quality stereo recordings. It includes two CMC 1U miniature Colette microphone preamps, two MK 22 open-cardioid matched capsules (with their matching certificate), and two SG20 stand clamps, all packaged in an ultracompact Peli hard case for protection. The set is particularly useful for field-recording applications due to its portability and rugged build.
The MK 22 capsule is popular for use as a spot or soloist's microphone, as the mid microphone for M/S, or as a main microphone pair. Its open-cardioid polar pattern offers the optimal combination of directionality (MK 4 cardioid) and warm sound characteristics (MK 22 wide cardioid). The highly consistent frequency response leads to natural sound quality.
The matte gray Schoeps CMC 1 U is a miniature Colette Series microphone amplifier offering uncompromising high fidelity in a lightweight and ultracompact form factor for studio recording, broadcast, and live stage applications. Presented as an alternative to the renowned Schoeps CMC 6 amplifier, the CMC 1 U is compatible with all existing MK mic capsules and Colette active accessories (all available separately).
It features a balanced XLR output, compliance with 12 or 48V phantom power, and low current consumption. Its Schoeps RFI Shield provides high immunity from RF interference for a clean, low-noise signal. The CMC 1 U supports the high maximum SPLs tolerated by the various MK mic capsules (available separately).

The matte gray MK 22 Microphone Capsule from Schoeps comes as a matched pair, and has open cardioid directional pattern, occupying a point on the spectrum between the wide cardioid and classic cardioid patterns. The response is -5 dB at 90° and there is 16 dB suppression of rear-incident sound. It is in essence a variant cardioid which balances a very natural sound quality with a good degree of directionality.
This capsule�s sonic transparency and good suppression of rear-incident sound make it a universal problem-solver. This capsule has wide cardioid that offers an alternative when its lower directivity fits the recording situation, e.g., for the first desk of strings or for solo piano.
This capsule has been developed for use as a spot microphone. It unites the strengths of the MK 4 and MK 21 capsules. Its directivity is essentially constant throughout the frequency range. Its inherent low-frequency response is somewhat more pronounced than that of the cardioid, while proximity effect is somewhat less. This capsule is well suited for use as stereo pairs.
The Schoeps SG20 Microphone Stand Adapter is designed to stand mount microphones measuring 20mm or 21mm in diameter. The SG20 features a strong metal housing and a durable plastic clamp. Its base is threaded for 5/8"-27 stands, and a threaded adapter is included to accommodate 3/8" and 1/2" mounting. The angle is continuously variable.
