Angler Chroma Green Retractable Background Overview
Ideal for studios and conference rooms, this Angler Retractable Background stays safe and out of sight when you aren't using it and deploys in seconds when you need it. It has a durable metal case designed to be mounted on a wall, hung from a ceiling, or placed on stands for mobility. When you pull the handle, an auto-lock holds the background exactly where you need it, and when you're done, simply give the handle a tug and the lock disengages and rolls it back into the case. The chroma green color allows you to digitally cut in the background you need behind your subject. When properly lit, it gives you the freedom to superimpose the background that is perfect for your shot or interview.

Easy setup, no wrinkles
I love this Angler Retractable Green Screen. You can mount it with the provided hardware in a room for fast and convenient use or you can use the provided s clamps (I used a slightly bigger set to work with my setup) to mount it with a couple C-stands/Heavy Duty Light stands. It's built well and seems like it will hold up over time. It feels exactly like one of those pull-down school projector screens. I love not having to pull out the steamer just to use the screen, it is a huge time saver. Just pull it down and throw some lights up and you are good to go. I definitely prefer this type of material over the fabric-style screen. Overall this is a quick, convenient, and quality screen. (I received this item in exchange for my honest review)
Screen works great, Keys clean, no wrinkles
I have the larger version of this screen, and am very happy with this smaller version as an addition. These are great for mounting on a wall and then pulling down when needed. But I also like to take them down off the hooks on the wall and use these as a portable set-up. I used the advice of the other reviewer here and bought 2 of the heavy-duty metal spring clamps and attached this screen to two light stands. This set up is super quick and works great. No longer have to worry about wrinkles, as this is wrinkle free, so once you pulldown the screen you are ready to go. No need to pull out a steamer or anything silly like that. The color of the green is vibrant, does really well with reflections, so this background keys out super easy when you add a light. The build quality of this screen is solid, and should last a long time. The pull down and retract mechanism works good and does not feel flimsy. This set-up is a game changer for green screens and I love the option to go portable with it. I like having the larger one for a larger set-up and this one for a smaller set-up with one, two or even three people. Having both options is great. I plan on mounting this in a small conference room with the supplied hardware for a quick green retractable screen. Which it's going to be perfect. But I'm more excited to take it off the hooks and bring it in the field. I used the advice of the other reviewer here and bought 2 of the heavy-duty metal spring clamps and attached this screen to two light stands. Worked like a charm! Had the screen up in no time at all and it's working perfectly. I am super impressed with the build quality and the overall quality of this product. The screen material seems very well made and the green color is nice and crisp. Doesn't seem to reflect the green color on the subject, and reacts to the light very well. Pull down mechanism is very responsive and feels very solid. This set-up is going to be a game changer for location green screens. No more setting up a big bar across 2 stands or c-stands. No more tying or sliding the green screen material over a long, awkward top bar. No more supporting the material to the ground with sandbags in order to stretch out the material evenly. AND NO MORE WRINKLES. That is fantastic! *Pay no attention to the little waves in the fabric seen in the pictures I uploaded. The pics are from my phone. They fade away to nothing on camera and are easily keyable. Overall, I'm super impressed with this retractable screen. To be able to set-up a green screen of this size, by yourself, in a few minutes is excellent. The speed of set-up and quality of the product will also be impressive for clients. 2 thumbs up! No more ironing my regular green cloth backdrops!
I own similar retractable backgrounds from Angler such as the Angler PortaScreen (Matte Black, 6.7 x 4.8'), which is great for vertical portraits and headshot videos, but this 7' wide Angler Chroma Green Retractable Background allows me to shoot way wider, great for video since a landscape format is needed and you need more left and right space. The primary way it suggests, is to be mounted in the wall as you already read the description page, which is fine if you have a studio that allows it. But for me, I have to make it temporary and portable. And for that, they thought of that too. It includes a strong triangular shape built in hardware on both extremes AND it also comes included with two S hooks inside the package with the manual so you don't have to go to a hardware store. Perfect! it also includes wall mounting screws and wall anchors, but mounting it on a wall Stud would be advisable. Well, I already had my idea on how I could make this wall mounting background to be as portable as any other backgrounds. But only until I get to see this item in person is when I can really figure out what I can do. And it was easier than I thought! The first thing that occurred to me was to use a Umbrella clip that mounts on a regular light stand. I placed the S hook where the clamp goes and it was PERFECT! (see my pictures!) This unit is light enough so you won't need to use a C Stand or nothing heavy or complicated. The entire setup will be light, portable and QUICK to take to any location or corporate office for a shoot, AND without dealing with wrinkles. Setting it up this way, on location, it also looks extremely pretty, even adds that expensive look on your gear, screaming PROFESSIONAL. And sliding it down or to retract it takes seconds, and even mounted off the wall using stands is very sturdy and will not swing. Now, the really important stuff. The performance. The actual green screen background area, the material is non reflective as it should be for a green screen, allowing perfect key depending also on your lighting skills. If you are a newbie at green screen, there are two ways to do this right: 1- You can use 2 lights, make sure they are of equal brand, power, and placing the lights at equal distance, and FAR AWAY from the background, allowing everything to be lit evenly including the person in the background, thus allowing the person to remain close to the green screen without too much risk on green spill from the back. Search for the Inverse Square Law for lighting on youtube and you'' understand how lighting works. If you're trying to succeed with a green screen using only 2 lights, if you being them close, you'll fail. In this case, its important that you keep the lights FAR. 2- The professional way...Place 2 or more lights, independently for the background only and make sure to get a light meter and measure the entire surface of the background to get absolute even readings from center and corners. Then, place the person as FAR away from the background as possible to avoid green spills hitting the person's back, otherwise, making the key out will be more difficult. Also light the person well and exclusive, including a backlight towards the subject to eliminate green spills. Lastly, the green screen should be 1 F/stop darker then the front subject. To close this review, this background is light, portable, (or permanent), the construction is well and made of aluminium, as light as possible as well for easy transportation and non reflective canvas. What else can I say... It's a screen... The only CON that I see is that depending on the season, low humidity and what shoes you're wearing, due to the material used to make the actual canvas background, I experienced severe static when pulling or retracting the screen as soon as I touch something else, like, the stands. So, just in case, grab a piece of metal first (the stand holding it) before you touch anything else or sensitive like a Cfast card or your camera. ALSO, the packaging it came with has enforced edges ensuring a safe delivery while handled in transit. Inside the package, the actual body is wrapped in plastic with thick white foam protecting everything. Mine arrived in perfect condition. Also do NOT throw away the BOX as I highly recommend that you transport it using the original box and WITH the foams it came with. There's no such thing as a 10' long skinny case, or at least nothing cheap to find or custom make. so keep the BOX! Very pleased with it especially the fact that it is a much more attractive piece of background to bring to an executive corporate office rather than bringing the usual muslim cloth. Much more professional looking and NO MORE IRONING or STEAMING! collapses in seconds! and you don't even need a helper to mount that on stands. Trust me. 1 person can do this alone fine. So convenient!
I have been using a portable green screen on a tripod for over a year. It has been a real hassle to move it into place and then move it back across the room afterwards. I bought this retractable screen and went to Home Depot to buy a stud finder. I use the stud finder to find the joists above my ceiling. I was able to confidently place a couple of strong eye screws to secure the ceiling mounted screen. It's solid as a rock and is so convenient now for my weekly webinars. I wish I had done this a year ago. The quality of the product seems good. It feels sturdy and I expect it to last as I am treating it carefully and not manhandling it. Hopefully the springs used for retraction will hold up over time. So far, so good.
