Windows 11 pro in the USB drive very practical
Well, I'm old school.
Remember when Win 10 was the last version of Windows? Yeah, me too. It's hard to find in both a physical media and with an install key. I'm not thrilled about the price but Bitlocker and being able to remote into a PC are things I use so it had to be the Pro version. Mainly I got this as most upgrades/OEM licenses tie you to a motherboard, it dies and so does your license. The retail version is supposed to allow you to migrate to new systems, so thinking a fe years ahead and long term use.
Not much works
I upgraded from windows 10 to 11 and spent about 6 months regretting it. I had no real issues updating from Win 7 to Win 10 and had tons of problems with Windows 8. This has that same frustrating feel as windows 8 even though the issues are different. I use Win 11 on my XPS 17 and Alienware Aurora 13. Both are new computers with 12th gen intel processors. Here is what I'm having issues with. 1. Win 11 has no never combine and hide feature on the Task Bar. This is a massively huge issue for me. 2. Everything is 2 clicks away where everything used to be 1 click. When I right click on lets say a file I now have to click for more options to get what I want. It really does take time away from a full days work. Actually everything is a layer or 2 down from where it used to be. Or, even worse what you are looking for is no longer available in Win 11. 3. I've never had so many blue screens of death using Premiere Pro. Win 11 does not work well with Premiere Pro. My record so far is 7 BSOD's in one 8-10hr day using Premiere Pro. 4. Each update seems to fix one thing and break another. My sound card stopped working on one update and it took me hours on the phone with Win 11 customer service to fix it. I'm going back to Win 10 on both my devices. It will take me several days to be functional again but the thought of all the lost productivity if I stay with Win 11 makes this seem like an easy process. I spent a lot of time working on Win 11 (6 months) and throughout this whole time I tried to keep an open mind and adapt to this new OS. In the end I realized this is just not a good OS and it isn't my inability to adapt but Win 11 was not designed for people who depend on this OS for their job and need to be productive. It's designed for light use.
Works exactly as expected - Windows 11 has quirks though
For what it was designed to do, it does it perfectly. The USB drive worked exactly as I'd want it to. Windows 11 has quirks compared to Windows 10, it's lost some features, added new ones, made weird changes -- but at the end of the day, I'm enjoying it. The biggest annoyance that happens daily for me is the context menu (right clicking) for Windows 11 is really shortened and has icons for certain actions like 'rename' 'copy' instead of labels. And if you have software that adds stuff to the context menu (Such as Open in VSCode or Make available offline for Dropbox), you have to click show more which changes the context menu from the Windows 11 aesthetic to the exact same menu that existed in Windows 10. It's a weird thing that Microsoft tends to do: they write programs to replicate the behavior that existed in prior versions except that it really just sits on top of the existing version but with a paired down level of functionality. This was also evident in Windows 8/8.1/10 with the settings app trying to replace the control panel -- but when you need to change something that doesn't exist, for whatever reason, in the settings app, it will just pull up the exact same control panel that existed in Windows 7. Microsoft needs to learn how to properly port their old functionality to the new interface so that the OS doesn't seem like a hodgepodge of all previous windows versions since Vista.
