The Celestron SkyProdigy 130mm f/5 Reflector GoTo Telescope is designed for people who want to spend more time observing, and less time setting up. In about three minutes, the StarSense system can automatically determine its position and align itself. Once this quick alignment is done, use the included hand controller to explore more than 4000 objects with full GoTo capabilities.
Optically, the telescope is outfitted with a large-aperture fully multi-coated primary mirror and a shorter focal length that produces a fast f/5 focal ratio. Having a fast optical tube improves resolution, resulting in the ability to split binary stars, separate clusters, and improve contrast on near objects such as the Moon. For astrophotography, fast focal ratios require shorter exposure times so more images can be captured for stacking and layering in post-production. The OTA is attached to a fully motorized single-arm mount that is controlled by the hand controller, and supported by a sturdy stainless steel tripod. The entire system is powered by eight user-supplied D-cell batteries.

Excellent scope for beginners and much more
Very easy to learn and use for beginners but don't think its not a great scope for general viewing. Invest in a couple good eyepieces and you will not be disappointed. Great quality for the price.
Great price, Lots of fun!
I ordered this to be shipped to Australia, the delivery was fast, the price was excellent. Much better value than buying the scope here. The box was well packed by with no damage. I was a bit sceptical that the alignment would work from my balcony as I don't have a 360 degree view, but it didn't matter, using manual align I point it at 3 places in my field of view and even on a full moonlit night the camera was finding between 50-100 stars. It only needs 20-50 stars for each calibration point. The only thing I can fault would be the fact that it takes 8 D-cell batteries (expensive) as opposed to the nexstar which used AA's. The batteries are housed in a holder which comes with a bag. There is a socket that plugs into the side of the scope. There is a chance that it could get tangled up, however the scope does have a feature where it sometimes rotates 360 degrees to undwind the cable if it thinks it's motion may wrap the cable. To offset the cost of the batteries I bought a 12V lead acid motorcyle battery and carry bag, car cigarette lighter connections and the celestron telescope cigarette light cable. It saves my lots of money on batteries and helps weigh down the tripod, which is already very sturdy. The telescope is on an alt-azimuth mount, however if you wanted to purchase an equtorial mount (for very long exposure astro photography) with rings later on the main scope could be easily transferred to that. I would recommend this telescope. JBM- Brisbane.
Fantastic optics
This is a great telescope for beginners. I assembled it with my 13YO nephew in about 15 minutes, and he was running it by himself in no time. Finding planets, adjusting aim, changing eyepieces, everything. We've gotten great views of the moon and a look at Saturn that rivals open night at the local observatory. It's amazing to watch it orient itself. Just press one button, stand back, and watch it look around for a few minutes. It recognizes constellations, and then calculates the entire sky from there. Once oriented, a few simple button pushes will get it to point itself at the celestial object of your choice. You can select from among the currently visible planets, a vast catalog of stars, or an automatically generated list of the most interesting objects visible that night from that location. You can also point the telescope at an object and ask it to identify what's in that vicinity. The one problem is that orientation is done with a camera attached directly to the tripod, not the telescope's own optics. With magnification that high, even a minute variance in angle can make miles of difference. So, while the computer can get you in the right ballpark, you'll probably need a few minutes of fine tuning to actually get the view lined up. (Again, my 13YO nephew can do this by himself.) The telescope computer does have a calibration option. It will point at a bright star, center it in the camera, and then ask you to center the star in the telescope's field of view. We haven't tried that yet, so I don't know how much it helps and whether or not it's necessary to redo the calibration every night. I should note that I went ahead and splurged on the accessories kit. We haven't had use yet for any of the color filters, but the Moon filter is a must, as is the 6mm eyepiece (for closer magnification on planets). Lunar observation is both easy and breathtaking, but it's painfully bright to look at without the filter.

Received from B & H within 24 hours. Incredible service. Very easy to assemble scope. Aligned scope on back desk next to house. Aligned with no problem even though I have many trees as I live in upstate New York. Was able to view stars and Saturn however must do some experimenting with eyepieces to get better views. Also at this time of year planets are obscured behind trees. Anxious to view moon also which has been out of sight after sunset and before midnight. Bought an AC adapter also. Did have one issue with cord almost wrapping on scope. Need more time to fully assess but so far impressed with the scope.
