We Meat Again
Answering the call of low frequency freaks everywhere, the
Meatbox from
DOD is an updated version of the classic subharmonic synthesizer and low-end enhancer. Designed for use with bass guitars, electric guitars, synthesizers, and even drum machines, the Meatbox can produce a range of sounds, from a slight thickening of tone, to an all-out sub bass attack.
The DOD Meatbox features dedicated Octave, Output Level, Subharmonic, and Low-Frequency controls, along with a 1/4" TS Hi-Z input, a 1/4" TRS output, a typical metal footswitch, and a crisp blue LED power indicator. The new lightweight metal chassis is durable without being bulky, and the pedal supports power from either a 9V battery or a 9 VDC power supply such as the Digitech PS0913DC.
More than Just a Frequency Boost
The Meatbox not only boosts low frequencies, it can also cut frequencies for tone sculpting as an interactive EQ. The Meatbox can even produce distortion, depending on where the output level is set.
Based on a Classic
Based on the cult favorite '90s Meatbox circuit design, but with updated components, this pedal is powerful, easy to operate, and maintains signal quality in complicated pedalboards thanks to its true bypass circuit, which the previous version lacked. The easy-to-read blue LED indicator lets you know when power is running through the pedal, and the modern 9 VDC power supply input makes it very pedalboard friendly.
Redesigned Chassis
The new Meatbox Subharmonic Synthesizer has been redesigned with a lighter metal chassis for easy transport without sacrificing durability. The finish is a classic red paint job with a flat black matte bottom, evoking the looks of the '90s original.
TRS Output Connector
Unique to the DOD Meatbox is the TRS output connector. This output allows you to route a dry, unaffected signal (Ring) and an affected signal (Tip) to your amplifier and other effects simultaneously via a TRS Y cable. This provides you with greater freedom of signal routing, and allows you to selectively process the low-frequency content of certain sounds without affecting your entire signal chain.
Placement of the DOD Meatbox
Most guitarists and bassists will favor placing the Meatbox at the beginning of their chain of effects. While the start of your chain is a good place to start, you may wish to experiment with effect placement to find the sound that best fits your playing style.
