Kenko KFM-1100 Overview
The Kenko (THK Photo Products) KFM-1100 Autometer is a user-friendly and ergonomically designed light meter for reading both ambient and flash light. This simple and reliable meter is both comfortable in your hand and logically designed, with a minimum of confusing buttons.
The large LCD display reads out in "F" numbers in 10ths of stops and in 1/2 stop increments in a pointer scale across the top of the display. With a shutter speed range of 1/8000 second to 30 minutes, this meter is quite sensitive. In its cine mode, frame rates of 8-128 can be achieved.
As a flash meter, the KFM-1100 can be used with or without a sync cord, and has an aperture range of F/1.0 - f/128. As an added bonus, both flash and ambient lighting can be analyzed to determine the lighting ratio of any scene. This feature is very handy in scenes where a flash is being used to "open up" a shadowed area left by ambient (natural) light.
The meter's "Calculation" function can be used to average measurements that have been stored in memory, very useful in reflected light measurements, to capture highlight or shadow detail more accurately.
The KFM-1100 can store 2 measurements that can be recalled for reference or for averaging. Just press the "M" button after each reading to store it in memory. If the memory has two readings stored, it will delete the oldest reading to store the current information.

Kenko KFM-1100 Reviews
Great product
This light meter arrived only a few days after I'd ordered it and was shipped from the USA. I have used it once to take a commissed (non chargable) portrait photo. Really easy to use even though I work exclusively with aperture priority. The results of the portrait exceeded my expectations, which I suppose is to be expected, considering I normally just use the light meter in the camera. However, it works well and is not too big and can be carried on a belt for convenience. I'm really pleased.
A shadow of the Minolta Flashmeter IVF
The Kenko KFM-1100 is watered down clone of the legendary Minolta Flashmeter IVF. The Kenko meter does not appear to be built to the same robust standards and does not have the ability to fine tune or calibrate the meter. The Minota IVF had a calibration dial under the battery compartment door. My Kenko KFM-1100 seems to function ok for now, but I don't anticipate this meter lasting as long as the Minolta IVF. I think if you're going to clone a device, you should go all the way. Years ago, I owned several Minolta meters and the IVF was the only one that didn't break down.

easy to use, great meter
Kenko KFM-1100 (Minolta Flashmeter IVF Clone)
I've owned the Minolta Flashmeter III, IV, IVF, Sekonic L-358 and a Sekonic LITEMASTER PRO L-478DR-U. The Kenko KFM-1100 is a clone of the now defunct Minolta Flashmeter IVF. I found the Minolta Flashmeter IVF to be the best, most reliable meter out of all of them that I had purchased over the years, I loved mine and should have never sold it to upgrade. While this meter is a clone of the Minolta Flashmeter IVF, there are a couple of interesting differences. First, the build quality is just not as good. The heavy duty quality of the plastic is not as nice as the Minolta version and they have left the calibration dial off of this one, at least in the most recent version that I purchased. This may end up being a deal breaker for me. Light meter accuracy is important, I used to send my meters into the service every couple of seasons to make certain is was spot on. This one does not have the calibration dial, (that used to be in the battery compartment). This lack of a calibration dial takes it from being a Pro tool to just another disposable light meter. If you're wondering, why not just purchased a used Minolta Flashmeter IVF, the components in the meters just don't last forever, after 7 or 8 years, the internal components begin to fail, capacitors, resistors, the boards just wear out.
Undecided
Used primarily for flash photography. Does a good job and I like it but I also think it is a bit pricey for what it does.
Excellent Choice
This light meter is very easy to use and accurate, even in low light situations. Extremely pleased with the purchase.
The least unreliable meter I have owned
I guess I have had three or four of these meters from one brand or another. As a light meter, it has almost everything you need and what's missing or wrong, you can mainly fix. What's wrong and you cannot fix is the silly rotatable dome on top. My wrist rotates better and is more reliable so maybe epoxy this onto the body to stop it breaking. Nothing works as well as the Weston Master invercone and made inverted domes for my meters. My opinion is that the inverted cone integrates cross lighting more accurately than a simple dome and you can view the range of readings more easily with just a small wrist movement. Although the Minolta meter was close to my favourite, it wasn't really strong enough for the rough and tumble of professional work. I always had two and one was usually broken normally just outside the warranty period. Normally this was electronics where the meter would just fail to turn on in the morning. So on the one hand, this might be the best meter you can buy, on the other hand, you may end up buying a few.
Works well
This works well, and meters accurately. Main use: in the studio metering monolights
