Lowepro Flipside 400 AW III Reviews
Looks good, with many flaws
I really wanted to love it because looks really nice, but eventually decided to return it. Several factors of the backpack have lead me to do so, including 1) complete lack of small pockets that can be used to hold small items such as lens cap or a memory card, 2) dividers are flimsy and cannot effectively divide, 3) only a narrow strip of felt is found at the bottom of the main compartment, making it very difficult to reorganize the space to fit my needs; 4) the flap over the side access opening is too soft to be protective of whatever you put in there. There are a few things that I do like, in addition to the look, including the shoulder straps are comfortable, the pack can stand by itself, light weight, very solid padding in the back panel covering the camera compartment, and an rain cover is included. was effective in accepting my return request and processed my return quickly so I do not have to be stuck with something that I am not satisfied with. I did have to pay the return shipping, which is usually waived in Amazon.
Best bag I've had yet!
Holds all my gear perfectly. Very comfortable backpack to wear, no fatigue after carrying it for a few hours. Also the design allowed me to quickly get through TSA twice. Great bag!
Disappointing "Upgrade"
I am a big fan of Lowepro gear. The original AW400 served me well for over a decade before the zippers gave out and decided to upgrade to this. First the PROS, it looks nice on the outside and is a bit more compact, great if you're travelling as turning around with the original meant you had to be mindful not to hit someone. But that's about it, every other aspect seems to be a downgrade and I will list these out after using v1 for 10 years. 1. The outward facing bag only has 1 zipper pull, seriously they couldnt afford 2? The old v1 also concealed the zipper with a clever design that helps prevent rain from going in. Now it's just an ordinary zipper. Slack. 2. The upward handles been slimmed down from v1. Probably to reduce the size, but the joints where its sewn into the bag is almost 50% shorter, meaning it will be less resilient over time. 3. The rain cover. OMG how did Lowepro screw this up? On the V1 the rain cover was integrated into the bottom of the bag and neatly tucked away. Now they instead have it include in a pouch inside the bag which takes up extra space. Massive downgrade. 4. The back cover used to recess into the bag again which helps reduce liquid from going in. Again a dumbed down choice. Also like another reviewer mentioned the bottom no longer has hinges SUPPORT so if you try to open the bag while you have the waist strap around you. Things will fall out. 5. The front compartment is smaller now. In the v1 I could fit a jacket. Plus it had smaller pouches for pens and passport and other details, all missing in the current version. 6. The internal compartment foam dividers are much thinner then before. My newer RLX 450 has pads the same thickness as the V1 and is great for padding my gear. The AWIII for some reason being newer is thinner. Lots of things to complain about the various downgrades as you'd expect things to improve over time. But absolutely you can tell they didnt design this with the care of their older models.

Perfect Size
I was gifted a 1D Mark IV and felt the need to get a better bag. Perfectly holds my 1D, 70-200 2.8, 50 1.4, flash, and other odds and ends. I initially got the 300 but it couldn't hold everything. My gear definitely feels safe and the dividers are sturdy. My only complaint is that I wish the hip belt was detachable. I also don't use the side opening so I wouldn't mind another spot to hold water or tripod.
Smaller than expected
It's smaller than I thought it would be but still able to fit all the gear I need. All in all it's a pretty nice bag. Well made and seems to be durable enough for my outdoor adventures.
The perfect camera backpack (for me)

The Lowepro Flipside 400 AW III fits 1 Canon R5 with the RF f/2.8 24-70mm + 1 Canon RF f/2.8 16mm + 1 Canon RF f/1.8 35mm + 1 Canon EF f/1.8 50mm and its adapter + 1 Canon RF f/2.8 70-200mm and its tripod collar, 1 Samyang AF f/1.4 85mm, 1 flash and a receiver, 4 batteries, cables, ... A 16 macbook pro and a 12 ipad pro fit in there as well. Quality built is excellent. As I said it's the perfect camera backpack in my opinion.
