As the name suggests, Minox designed their 8x44 X-HD Binoculars with extralow-dispersion HD glass to provide you with clear high-contrast views free from distortion.
Minox eschews convention by utilizing a 44mm objective, instead of the much more common 42mm size. The larger lens provides performance increases across the board, including light-gathering capability to keep views bright in challenging conditions and a wider exit pupil. Proprietary M* anti-reflection multi-coatings on the ED glass lenses and dielectric coated roof prisms transmit bright and clear high-contrast images with true neutral color rendition and crisp clarity while correcting chromatic and spherical aberration. The X-HD's performance enhancements are critical components for scanning the terrain, identifying your target, and maintaining sight of it without it seeing or smelling you.
Utilizing an open-bridge/dual-hinge configuration helps to cut weight without sacrificing stability while providing plenty of room to wrap your hands completely around the optical tubes for a better grip, even if you need to use them one-handed. The chassis is made of a lightweight and durable polycarbonate wrapped in a protective armor that provides a slip-resistant gripespecially in cold and wet weather. The optical tubes are nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to be resistant to internal fogging and also waterproofso the X-HD will fair better than you if they tumble into a stream or pond. And if you do end up in a stream, tethered objective lens caps and one-piece ocular rainguard prevent their loss while allowing for fast reaction when opportunities present themselves.
Optical Performance
- Moderate 8x power magnifies subject without narrowing the view and exit pupil or shortening the eye relief
- Atypical 44mm objective lenses provide improved light-gathering capability versus the more common 42mm for better low light performance while helping to produce a wider and more comfortable exit pupil and eye relief
- Roof prism light path produces smaller optical tubes versus Porro prism design for more comfortable handling without compromising performance
- Dielectric prism coatings push internal reflectivity to better than 90% to improve contrast & clarity while keeping views bright
- Extra-low dispersion (ED) glass lens elements reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations to produce views with true color without fringing, halos, or distortion across the entire field of view
- Proprietary M* anti-reflection fully multi-coated optics improve light transmission to boost contrast and produce a neutral color rendition to make colors appear more true and natural
- Wide 62° apparent angle of view reduces the need for the user to move their head to see the scene in front of them, allowing them to concentrate on the viewing experience
- Spacious 410-foot field of view at 1000 yards
Use and Handling
- Open-bridge, dual-hinge configuration offers stability and rigidity
- Bridge design provides more gripping surface for steadier handling
- Large knurled center focus wheel is easy to manipulate in cold and wet weather or when wearing gloves
- ±4 right-eye dioptric correction enables to achieve tack sharp focus even if their eyesight isn't perfect
- Twist-up eyecups for comfortable use with or without eyewear
- 1/4"-20 socket on front hinge allows the binoculars to be mounted on a tripod using an optional adapter
- Wide 5.5mm exit pupil will completely cover pupils, even in low light conditions, to keep the whole scene in view
Construction Details
- Compact design is ideal for hunting and birding
- Bridge offers much more gripping surface area versus conventional designs to make them more comfortable and secure, so you can hold the binoculars with one hand
- Polycarbonate housing is resistant to corrosion and the expansion and contraction common in metal housing that can cause optical components to move out of alignment over time
- Rubber armor protects against bumps and impacts while providing a firm grip in cold and wet weather
- Nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof and resistant to internal fogging when moving through extreme changes in temperature or environmental conditions
- Tethered one-piece ocular rainguard and objective lens caps prevent loss and allow for fast reaction when opportunities present themselves
- Broad 14 to 122°F (-10 to 50°C) operating temperature range
- Length of under 6 inches
- Weight: 25.4 ounces
