Sontronics ORPHEUS Overview
The Sontronics Orpheus is a versatile multi-pattern condenser microphone designed to provide detailed and nuanced recordings of instruments, vocals, and ensembles. The mic allows you to switch between cardioid, figure-of-eight, and omnidirectional polar patterns, giving you added flexibility for a wide variety of sources and applications.
The Orpheus was originally built as a mic for acoustic guitar, and the large spherical grille was designed to help it accurately capture all of the details in the recording space, which explains its popularity among engineers as a room and overhead microphone. In this regard, a nice touch on the Orpheus is the +10 dB gain boost, which allows you to place the mic further away from the source and capture more ambient tones while still delivering a high-gain / low-noise output signal.
The mic also features a traditional -10 dB pad option, which can be engaged when recording loud sound sources, allowing the mic to handle SPLs up to 130 dB. The mic stand adapter is adjustable, with convenient knobs that allow for quick positioning for optimal placement.
