A flexible lens for telephoto shooting, the Nikon F-mount 100-400mm f/4.5-6.3 Di VC USD from Tamron spans a useful focal length range along with a lightweight design for even greater versatility. The lens's optical design incorporates three low dispersion elements to suppress color fringing and chromatic aberrations, while an eBAND coating has been applied to individual elements to reduce lens flare and ghosting for greater contrast and clarity. Complementing the optical design is a high-speed Ultrasonic Silent Drive autofocus system, which is benefitted by a dual MPU for quick and responsive performance. Vibration Compensation is also featured to minimize the appearance of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting. Suiting this 100-400's use outdoors, it's magnesium alloy construction is also weather-sealed for working in harsh environmental conditions.

Extremely pleased with my results
Pairing the Tamron 100-400 with my 90D has provided me with some really awesome results when I do my job to give the setup a chance to really flex its muscles. Images are crisp and sharp, granting me the opportunity to tell the story I saw through the viewfinder. The size of the kit and reach I can achieve makes for some great photos and I find the setup is no issue to carry all day for my needs. This setup has allowed me to produce some of the sharpest photos I've had the chance to capture and while the zoom ring rotates the opposite direction for Canon folk, I've gotten used to it for the most part. It is probably the only gripe for me...have I missed shots because of it? Perhaps. But to be honest, that's probably more on me for not being ready to be honest. Weather sealing allowed me to capture some shots I'd never have captured previously...one of my biggest wants in a lens. This is a great feeling lens in the hands, build quality feels like it'll last me for years to come and everything moves so smoothly. Overall, I'm very happy and it takes me back to shooting Tamron on my dad's Minolta X-700 when I was quite a bit younger.
Tamron 100-400 is a steal
I was looking for a longer lens to photograph some of the wildlife on my property, especially a pair of Great Horned Owls that have taken up residence, but I didn't want a lens so specialized, large and heavy that I'd rarely use or carry it (eg a 150-600). It had to be sharp wide open and at the long end because it would be used a lot that way. This Tamron lens fits the bill. It is, in my view, very sharp wide open at 400mm. In situations where the very limited depth of field would quickly show any inaccuracy of the autofocus the results have been excellent. Finally, I've hand-held it (albeit with elbows braced on a solid object) and gotten sharp results at a shutter speed of 1/40 of a second at 400mm, so the anti-shake is also excellent. It's light weight, coupled with the featherweight Canon SL1 I use it on, makes carrying in the field a relative dream. Frankly, unless one is a pro shooter that is going to beat a lens to death this lens is an absolute steal, in my view. I would recommend it.

I bought this lens as a replacement for my Nikkor 70-300 after the focus motor started to become very slow. The focus on this lens, both AF and manual is fast and smooth. I have been getting some great images out of it.
Worth the Wait
Arrived in very sturdy packaging. This lens appears to be well made and nicely finished. Autofocus is fast and image stabilization does a very good job (for those of us who are lazy about carrying a tripod. Images are sharp with the right amount of contrast. I've used Tamron lenses for many, many years and often choose to carry them instead of my heavier L series lenses. Kudos to Tamron for continuing to improve it's products. , great company.
Excellent on DX cams, OK for FF. Its size-weight are great!
This lens is marvelous on the D500 and D7500, with sharp and fast AF, on the D850 it loses its edge, but is still very good. On the Z9 it does a good job but not as fast as the Z 100-400 from Nikon (4 times the price), although the image is close. I have taken some of my best bird action shots with this lens due to its small size and lightweight, it makes it easy to track fast! I have the G2 150-600, Nikon 500 PF, Nikon 600 F4, and this $700 DLLs lens is always in my bag, it is worthy of action everywhere. One of the true gems for an open-minded photographer.
Great lens
I bought this lens for my recent trip to Antarctica. I wanted to capture sharp images of the wildlife. This lens is not too heavy. I can hand hold it and shoot without a tripod and still get sharp images. I am just an amateur but really love the results I have gotten with the lens on m Nikon D5500.
