The 18TB UltraStar DC HC550 7200 rpm SAS-3 3.5" Internal HDD from WD is a high-performance, large-capacity drive designed for enterprise environments that have intensive data and storage needs. This drive has a storage capacity of 18TB and a 3.5" form factor with a SAS-3 12 Gb/s interface, rotational speed of 7200 rpm, and 512MB cache that help to ensure uninterrupted data transfers at speeds of up to 269 MB/s. As a professional-grade drive, it has an MTBF rating of 2.5 million hours, an Annualized Failure Rate (AFR) of 0.35%, 600,000 load/unload cycles, an error rate of 1 in 1015 non-recoverable bits read, and a workload of up to 550TB per year, plus WD's HelioSeal technology, which replaces the air inside the drive with helium. This allows for increased efficiency, reliability, and capacity, thanks to reduced vibration, improved areal density, cooler operating temperatures, and reduced power requirements.

Can be formatted with WD tools to native 4Kn. Huge performance gains in the NAS with this setup. More reliability than WD RED Drives.

Good price for a great size of hard drive
For $500 I got 18TB of fast and expansive storage - using in my Drobo to give me more space before I transition to Synology. So far it is quiet and running smoothly
DON't BUY
Drive came in a brown box and the serial number could not be registered on WD's site for warranty coverage. If it fails, WD will not cover it under warranty.

This is the same OEM drive you cash get from the jungle store for a hundred bucks less.

Excellent
I have 5 of these running in my Synology DS1520+. I used WD Developer tools to format them to 4Kn Native disks which improves the performance even further in the NAS. Excellent drives. No DOA.
Noisy
Moving from 3x8TB 5400 to 2x18TB 7200 is a modest bump in space while reducing drive count. Had planned to use 3x but limited purchase to 2 and I was on a time crunch. The amount of noise these drives make is double the slower drives. They are also faster and more spacious, so it's a mixed bag. If they didn't live in my office where I spend most my time I'd probably like them more.
