Auray BP-47A Overview
An internal, coiled cable with a side-exit XLR connector makes it easy to extend or retract the boompole while streamlining your setup with fewer cables to carry. The custom, removable head tip and drop-through design allow for cable reconfiguration without any soldering required. High-quality Rean and Neutrik connectors are used for reliable signal transfer and uncompromised performance, even in challenging environments.
The durable anodized aluminum construction can handle the bumps and impacts of demanding travel and location shoots in all kinds of weather.
Solid Grip and Smooth Telescoping
- The ergonomic twist locks are covered with rubber grips that are easy on your hands and comfortable to operate, making length adjustment smooth and effortless. Improved shims ensure a firm and secure hold until you loosen the locks.
Anti-Twist Alignment Tubing for One-Handed Operation
- Quick length adjustment when you're recording on the go is crucial for keeping from interrupting the shoot. With an anti-twist design, adjacent tubes won't twist when you're expanding or retracting the boompole. This allows for one-handed twist lock operation and makes setup and length adjustment fast and easy.
- The integrated, coiled XLR cable is engineered to minimize unwanted radio frequency (RF) and electromagnetic (EM) interference that can degrade the audio signal. The coiled design allows the cable to smoothly extend and retract with the telescoping tubes.
- The tip's strain-relief system absorbs tension, secures the cable, and protects the cable from damage at the edges of the tip exit. Additional strain relief at the bottom of the pole protects and preserves the connections between the cable and the TA3 connector.
Bottom-Exit Connector
- With a right-angle XLR cable plugged into the bottom-exit connector, the operator can rest the pole on its end without damaging the wiring or connector.
- BP Series boompoles feature a removable Arrowhead tip designed to reduce weight at the top of the pole.
- The tip also allows easy drop-through cable insertion for quick and uncomplicated cable replacement.
- Thanks to the solderless design, you won't need special tools to replace the XLR cable using the cable replacement kit (available separately).
- The internal cable is equipped with high-quality XLR and TA3 (mini XLR) connectors manufactured by Rean. The connectors ensure flawless signal transfer and secure locking connections, preventing the cable from disconnecting, even if there's stress or an accidental tug on the cable.
- The Neutrik bottom-exit connector is housed in its own casing and ensures a secure connection to the boompole that won't jeopardize signal flow by twisting or jiggling.
Standard 3/8"-16 Threaded Mount
- The boompole is outfitted with a standard 3/8"-16 threaded mount to ensure compatibility with most professional shotgun mics and shockmounts.

Auray BP-47A Reviews
Great affordable short boom pole
First of all, this is a great boom pole for the price. Its direct competitor would be the K-Tek KE-89CC. But the Auray is about 55$ cheaper. For that price, I find that you get more for your money. First, Anti-Twist tubes are a huge pro for me. I do not understand why the big "Pro" boom pole brands don't do that as well. It's simply amazing to never worry about the internal cable twisting or for the tube sections twisting when you try to turn the twist locks. That alone makes it 1000 times better than the K-Tek KE-89CC. Second, You can actually remove or replace the internal XLR cable super easily and quickly on the Auray boom pole. You simply cannot do that with the K-Tek KE-89CC. However, i did notice a small problem with that: The bottom of the boom pole can be unscrewed to, theoretically, remove or replace the internal XLR cable. However, I noticed that there is actually a piece of plastic that prevents me from removing the cable. I actually had to cut it with pliers to be able to remove the cable. But, now that that's done, it can be done very easily and quickly. That said, even with that problem, its still easier than with the k-tek. Another small problem with this boompole is that the XLR cable coming out the top is way too long. I was, however, able to cram it back inside the pole pretty easily. Now, it's a bit more manageable but still a bit long in my opinion. I reached out to Auray about it, and they told me its the standard length and similar to competitors. Which is true for some of them, like K-tek. But, I do find k-tek cables way too long as well. Next, I'm not a big fan of bottom exit XLR ports because you can't rest it on the floor. For this type of mini boompole however, it's no big deal and could actually be a good idea if you use a plug on transmitter. That said, I would still prefer a side exit XLR. However, they do have that option with the longer version for only 30$ more. But with the carbon fibre versions, they only have bottom exits (on at least). As for the weight of the pole. It is aluminium, so a bit heavier than carbon fibre, or even the K-tek one. However, it is such a short boom pole that i simply don't notice it. It seems super light. Overall, I wish Auray made way longer versions of these great boom poles. Especially the carbon fibre options. I also wish they would add more side-exit XLR options. To conclude, this is a great, affordable, boom pole that I would choose any day over the Avalon series by k-tek. Of course, it's not my main boom pole because of its size, but I do use it as my mini boom pole for small spaces. It is very useful for that. Pretty light weight for an aluminium boom
I have both the carbon fiber and the aluminum versions of this Boom. I was very surprised how light this Boom is for being made of aluminum! I will be using this Boom for sit down interviews, mounted on a lightstand (counter weighted), also for full hand held mobility for everything else. I have been a Boom operator for years, and if you know how to operate a Boom properly, this Boom will be very useful. If you are a beginner, practice is key for successful use of a Boom. Operating a Boom is an art and requires skills. I prefer a Boom with built in XLR cables, because, whenever I decide to make it uncabled, it is very easy to remove, and without having to try another coiled cable from another Boom that will probably not fit. Removing the cable can be useful and sometimes required for specific applications such as going wireless, or, running with the boom for action scenes. If I want it to be cabled again, I simply install it back. A built in cable is for convenience, however, it can't do miracles, they have limitations depending on how you will work with the Boom. For professional use, this boom, especially for the affordable price, it has most features that I expect to find in a Boom and makes my job easier, such as: 1- The Boom sections, with only a 1/2 turn, it will loosen /lock firmly in place, making it a pleasure to expand and collapse. What you don't want is a boom that will require several turns to loosen or tighten the pole sections. That would be a chore! 2- The poles / tubes expand and collapse effortlessly and are smooth and quiet. 3- It is lightweight and well constructed 4- No soldering required on the cable at the tip of the Boom. The built in cable that comes with this Boom is clean. No hissing and no humming. All you hear is your mic. 5- Even if you load it with a full size shotgun, with a Blimp, the pole remains straight, at full extension length. I wish the XLR jack were placed on the side of the Boom and not at the back. I can't rest the Boom on the ground since my cable or the wireless transmitter will be the first thing to touch the ground. I would have to always place it on a stand to rest. It would be a game changer if they made the XLR output side-addressed, or even a separate accessory for those who want, so the cables or transmitter would be installed on the side. All that I said above in this review, what this boom does and doesn't do, you can actually watch my 30 minute boom class I made on YouTube, WITH this product in action, everything you want to know about it. Built in XLR is nice, but honestly its a loud pole.
Solid discount choice with XLR built in durable (even more when on sale). It's a loud pole though, get some foam for the grip yourself (or wrap in foam tape, gorilla ties (foam ties - with metal core), or foam adhesive sheets) to reduce noise, it helped us. Or put in on a C-stand for ZERO noise. More expensive poles are quieter but if you're not a sound person working every day this will work for indie features or Youtube shoots. Durable.
Very impressed with this boompole.
This boompole is working great. I'm very surprised how lightweight it is, especially considering its long length, being aluminum and with an included XLR cable. I was expecting it to be much heavier, but this feels great and is lightweight which is very important. The XLR audio connections seem well-made, and the provided cable also feels high-quality to me. BTW- I'm very happy it has an included XLR cable. That makes working with it so much easier. And I can remove the cable easily if I do not want it. That flexibility is important. The twist lock connections work very well. They are easy to loosen and tighten and they feel solid. I've had no problem with any of my microphones attached. They do not slip, and it feels very secure. I've had other twist locking boompoles in the past, which were much harder to work with and would occasionally loosen by themselves, but this boompole and its locks work great and have been rock-solid.
