Get extras!
Nice idea Canon, but they easily disappear. You will want some extras in your bag or put some tape over it! Nice, $6,000 camera with a nice piece of tape on it to make sure it doesn't bare...otherwise it leaves contacts open to get wet. Gets wet, you will need to get you main board replaced! Seems if it was this easy to get a catastrophic failure that a better solution would be available!
Stop gap for my R3
The R3 shoe cover pops off very easily bec. of its poor design and I managed to lose it (should have gaffer taped it down) for some strange reason the R3 replacement shoe has never been available and I read someone else's review here that the R7 works and probably better bec. of its design which is good bec. I live in New England def. need the full weather sealing.
Improvement for the Canon R3
The Canon R3 comes with a bulbous accessory shoe cover that protrudes from the top of the camera. I assume this was a choice of style. You need to use a shoe cover with the appropriate protrusions to fully weather seal the camera due to the plethora of tightly packed pins nested in the shoe toward the front of the camera. The R3 shoe cover, since it is so bulbous, easily gets caught on bags and removed from the camera accidentally. This leads to losing the cover very easily. The shoe cover here is for the R7 but it works perfectly on the R3, sitting flush with the accessory shoe, and providing all of the weather sealing needs without getting so easily knocked loose.
