Designed for the 500 Series format, the elysia xpressor|neo 500 is a stereo compressor tailored for modular recording setups and compact studio environments. This Class-A stereo VCA compressor delivers an open, transparent sound characterized by punchy transients, detailed high-end clarity, and robust low-end energy, making it an exceptional tool for recording, mixing, and mastering.
In standard mode, the xpressor|neo ensures transparent compression with a flat frequency response. Activate Warm Mode to introduce subtle warmth and musical saturation, adding character to your sound without compromising clarity. Whether you're using it for stereo bus compression, shaping mono signals, or crafting creative dynamics, the xpressor|neo 500 is a powerful and flexible tool that enhances the quality and depth of your recordings. Meticulously hand-built and tested in Germany to the highest standards, it occupies two slots in any 500 Series rack (available separately).
- In Auto Fast mode, the compressor can be very fast, but only when it is really needed. This function influences the attack parameter on short and loud impulses. In all other cases, the original setting of the controller has priority.
- In Logarithmic (Log) Release Mode, short and loud peaks (e.g. drums) have a fast release time, while the remaining material is processed with a slower release. Its smooth performance makes the Log Release especially useful for mastering and stereo bus compression.
- The Linear mode has a straight release profile without the slower tapering release characteristic of the Log mode. The linear mode is a good choice for more aggressive dynamics control of dry signals and it is especially useful when you want to process signals which do not have a long decay.
- Warm Mode is a slew-rate limiter that reduces the speed of the output amplifier stages. This affects the frequency spectrum, the harmonics, and the transient response at the same time, creating a rich, saturated sound.
- For frequency-selective compression, the xpressor|neo 500 offers a low-cut filter with a selectable frequency.
- The filter is located in the side-chain, enabling you to reduce the influence the effect that low frequencies have on your overall compression. This is an easy way to apply the desired amount of gain reduction without the side effect of the track starting to pump.
- The Gain Reduction Limiter (GR Limit) is placed in the control path of the compressor.
- It limits the control voltage according to the setting of the GR Limit controller. No matter how high the input level might get, the amount of gain reduction will never exceed the value which you have set.
- Special effects like ducking or upward compression can be achieved by only reducing quieter parts without changing the original dynamics.
- The Mix knob makes it possible to crossfade between the unprocessed and the compressed signals. This allows parallel compression right in the box and makes additional routings redundant in favor of better signal quality.
