- For 2-Way Optical Communication
- For Uninterrupted Data Transmission
- Automatic Switching
- Manual Override
- Latching Switch Withstands Power Failure
- Remotely Operable
The Meridian Technologies SX-2FX-SMST 2-Channel Fiber Protection Switch (SM/ST Connector) is an A/B protection switch card that provides automatic or manual switching between 2 active fibers for improved fiber network security. The switch is usable with bi-directional communication systems such as camera PTZ control and videoconferencing system.
Typically used at the receiving or head-end side, the SX-2FX-SMST device automatically switches the transmission path to the redundant fiber in the event of a main fiber break in less than 10 micro seconds. Automatic switching ensures uninterrupted data transmission even in case of a loss of optical signal in 1 channel. The switch can be manually overridden from its front panel to select one of the fiber paths for maximizing the optical power budget available in the network.
Equipped with indicators on the front panel, the switch indicates the status of each of the input fibers as well as the switch position. This latching switch can retain its state during power failures and an internal microcontroller ensures that the device does not switch to the opposite state when the power returns.
The PC-based SpectraSmart network management and remote diagnostic software system helps monitor the operating parameters of the protection switch card. Using the software, you can remotely select the optical transmission path as well as interchange the switching threshold among other performance monitors.
