So far, so good
I ordered this for a Mac OS Time Machine, because it is one of the few powered options with firewire connectivity. I have hard fairly frequentthe larger size means one can partition the disk with segments for future use if one goes bad. trouble with the 2T OWC disk that I bought 2 years ago. But
Does not seem to stay connected to computer
I have used OWC HDs for years and years, but this one seems to drop off line intermittently. I can't get anyone at to respond to my inquires on what is going on. The only correspondence from are emails asking me to rate my purchase.
Compact, reliable, with loads of memory.
It's great to have 14TB of memory in such a compact reliable device for video editing. The OWC 14TB Mercury Elite Pro External Hard Drive is fast, and ideal for large multi-camera projects.
Problematic external drive
Perhaps it is just this item, but I am having severe problems with this OWC Mercury Elite HD. Not only is it terribly slow to rev up, but it makes unpleasant noises while doing so. I tried using disk utility and got the message that there was a problem I could not fix. Sending it back.
DOA
I've had very good luck with OWC drives over the years. Not so with this one - it wouldn't power up straight out of the box. Support was helpful and walked me thru the various possible connection issues with no luck. I'm waiting for a replacement. So, five stars for the help and no stars for this particular drive.
great drive enclosure
Solid enclosure with decent ventilation. Has a proper, full size USB connector (not one of the flimsy mini/micro connectors that can snap easily). Has an actual on/off switch (so it won't just randomly turn on/off if you connect/disconnect it but don't actually want to change whether it's on/off...). Relatively quiet, and comes with rubber feet to isolate from vibrations/bumps of whatever it's sitting on.
lost all data 2 times
No stable external hard drive. 2 times lost all data. My new 8TB drive will not work and OWC warranty and support is totally WORTHLESS, NEVER AGAIN!
