Pioneer BDR-X13U-S Overview
The Pioneer BDR-X13U-S External Blu-ray Writer with M-DISC Support can read and write a variety of disc media, including CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray, and M-DISC. Physically, it has a simple matte body, featuring metallic lines, blue LED light, and side grooves, contributing to an attractive and elegant design. This high-performance optical drive is ideal for recording and playback of audio and video content, with up to 16x write speed on BD-R media and up to 8x write speeds on BD-R Triple Layer discs.
RealTime PureRead utilizes the PureRead 4+ algorithm to minimize errors when importing audio CDs and during playback, providing real-time reduction of error data interpolation due to dirt and scratches on the surface of the disc. Take advantage of the Custom Eco function, which helps reduce the device's power consumption, while the optical disc technology delivers quiet operation, high reliability, and quality. This optical drive includes Windows-compatible software CyberLink Media Suite 10, allowing smooth playback of UHD Blu-ray discs, and PowerDirector 19 offers prosumer video editing, importing, and authoring of home movies.
HD Blu-ray and M-DISC Support
Play Blu-ray movies or create your own utilizing the included CyberLink Media Suite 10 for Windows. This optical drive is compatible with all BDXL Blu-ray media and M-DISC for long-term storage.
Manual Access
A manual access lever allows you to open the lid and remove the disc manually when you forget to eject it, without using any special tools or having to turn the power on.
PureRead 4+ Support
If read errors caused by scratches or fingerprints occur when importing or ripping audio CDs, using this function allows for automatic detection of the disc state, adjustment of the read method using an original algorithm, and then re-reading of the disc. This minimizes error data interpolation.
Displaying PureRead Mode
With no disc inserted, press and hold the open button for at least two seconds. The busy indicator flashes, and the current PureRead mode setting is displayed. You can check the mode in advance without launching the Drive Utility on your computer.
Ridged Construction
The drive includes four insulators for use in a horizontal configuration and eight for vertical placement, allowing flexibility in any workspace. Designed with simplicity in mind, the drive features a matte body with rigid grooved sides and distinctive metallic lines for an elegant front appearance.
Custom Eco Functionality
If the drive does not receive any commands or instructions for operation from the computer for a specified period, the Custom Eco function will reduce the drive's power consumption, such as by stopping the disc from rotating or reducing the disc rotation speed. Shortening this specified period will make the drive enter the power-saving mode earlier.
Advanced Quiet Drive
When listening to an audio CD or watching a movie on BD or DVD, this function reduces the rotation speed of the disc appropriately, allowing you to focus on what you're listening to. Plus, multiple modes allow you to optimize performance to suit different applications.
- The default quiet mode reduces rotational speed to avoid operational and fan noise but may increase speed during high-quality video playback
- Persistent quiet mode reduces the rotational speed at all times
- Performance mode prioritizes recording and reading speed over sound dampening, but it may slow rotational speed when watching movie titles or playing audio CDs

Processor and Memory
A 2.66 MHz Intel Core 2 Duo E6750, 2.1 GHz AMD Phenom 9450, or faster processor is required; 2GB of RAM is required for Blu-ray playback; at least 3GB of RAM is recommended for editing HD video.
Hard Disk Space
A minimum of 5GB of available space is required. When creating Quadruple Layer (QL) Blu-ray Discs, 128GB or more of available space is required.
Graphics
Intel G45, NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT, AMD Radeon HD2600, or faster graphics are required.
Display
An HDCP-compliant display is required for Blu-ray playback; a 1024 x 768 minimum display resolution is supported.
Note:
HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) support is required only for playback of high-definition copy-protected content. For such content, the connection between the host and the display device must be made using a compatible DVI, HDMI, or DisplayPort cable.
