Vello ET-87 Overview
The dedicated white Vello ET-87W Lens Hood is specifically designed for use with Canon's EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II lens. It is primarily used to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of it. A dedicated hood is crafted to perfectly suit the specific focal length of the lens it is designed for. Additionally, this hood features a non-glare matte finish on the interior surface to further prevent or limit lens flare. Also, since the end of the lens is extended, you get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.
The "petal" shape of this lens hood maximizes the amount of hood coverage for the minimum amount of weight and hood area. The bayonet mount is designed to also work in the reversed position, allowing the hood to be placed backwards over the lens for a more compact storage solution.

Awesome equip
COOL !!!
Looks great on my 70-200 f2.8 II, almost the same color, a little bit thinner than original one.It should be cooler in direct sun than the black one.It would look even better whit a white 1d body!
Not that good as other reviews states
I don't know why this lends hood received so many good review. First of all, it doesn't have the felt at the inner core like the original one has, those felt material is very handy to trap the dusts and sands before they really attach to your lens. Without those felt, the hood lost some of the protection ability. Some of the review said the color matches the 70-200 lens very well, I think it's just somewhat 85% matches. The outer ring paint job was ok, but any paints from outer rings are not so good and look cheap. The fit was just ok, mine was very hard to mount when I try to mount the reverse side. I think this thing shouldn't cost that much, I would only spend around $12$15 for it, but I won't spend around $30 and I wouldn't recommend to anyone if the price stays this high. I was almost returning it, the reason I keep it because I didn't want to spend shipping back to BH for it is not defected and white hood on 70-200 does look rare and cooler.
Not what I expected.
I expected more for this price ($25 bucks for a little piece of plastic). I really like Canon's lens hood, especially the interior flocking, that's used to block out stray light. It is the ideal solution. I thought a white Hood could look good with the lens, so I ordered this one, hoping to receive one of equal value, but unfortunately that is not the case. The Interior of the Vello lens hood (while black), is very, very reflective. It is black, but very shiny, so I'm afraid it will go the same route as the other lens hood I ordered - straight into the trash. Another annoyance is, that this hood is not very easy to mount on the lens (but I suspect, that could become easier as it is used more often).

So why would you drop $ for a hood you probably already have, I just go the 70-200 2.8L II so no way did I need a new hood. BUT, being new I can now stick the original in the box and beat up the cheap Vello in the field. Does is look better, of course it does, the color mathches the lens perfectly. And Yes, it does make you feel like you moved up the food chain to the Super tele prime beasts, for 10K less! Throw on your 2X and a mono pod and your kids game just when showtime! Bottom line. it's very well made, looks better than the black hood and is fun in the way I described above. No it will not give you better photos, but it may raise expectations of them!
