The TRP500 500 Series Microphone Preamp from AEA Ribbon Mics is an updated take on the company's original TRP preamp, featuring low noise, musical sonics, and optimization for low-output ribbon and dynamic mics. The TRP500 is designed to draw out the warmth and lush sound of ribbon mics, as well as benefit condensers and even passive tube mics with its ultrahigh impedance of 100,000 Ohms and crystal-clear, 85 dB of JFET gain.
The minimal path architecture puts as little as possible between you and your signal, with a nigh imperceptible noise floor and a very flat and wide frequency response, ensuring accurate recording. Switches and buttons are provided for a high-pass filter (115 Hz or 230 Hz), 48V phantom power, and polarity inversion. A 12-position knob for gain level enables precision settings, and the 500 Series form factor allows the preamp to take up as little real estate as possible while keeping the power supply outside of the circuit for superior interference protection. Whether they be passive or active, the TRP500 will simply get the best out of your microphones.
Maximize the Potential of Your Microphones
Whether you use the TRP500 with a ribbon, condenser, or moving-coil dynamic mic, it will benefit from the preamp's crystal-clear gain and ultralow noise floor. Low output ribbon and dynamic mics will sound loud and open with 85 dB of gain, courtesy of the JFET input circuit. The high-impedance, 100 kilohm input draws out the warmth and lush sound of ribbon mics, vintage high-impedance dynamic mics, and even passive tube condenser mics, enhancing sensitivity, bandwidth, transient response, and clarity.
Clean, Quiet, and Configurable
The TRP500 preamp features a minimal signal path which provides incredibly quiet DC-coupled JFET gain boosting. The frequency response is flat and wide at less than 10 Hz to 200 kHz. Phantom power can be activated with the dedicated P48 button (reducing input impedance to 11,900 ohms), and another button allows for polarity inversion. A 3-position switch provides a gentle 6 dB per octave with a choice of -3 dB points at 115 Hz or 230 Hz. Mic gain is controlled from a precise 12-position switch (+7 dB to +65 dB) while output gain is controlled via a potentiometer ranging from unity gain (0 dB) to +20 dB.
Like all AEA products, the TRP500 is completely handcrafted in Pasadena, California from locally sourced parts. AEA is a family-owned company with a small crew of skilled technicians, many of whom are musicians themselves.
