Manfrotto LL LA2422 Overview
The Manfrotto Tilthead Shoe Lock is a mounting bracket that allows you to use an umbrella with a portable flashgun on a stand. The Tilthead's screw locking shoe mount will accommodate most flashgun hotshoes, and the umbrella socket allows you to use a bounce or shoot-through umbrella. The Tilthead fits any stand or other support device with a standard spigot treatment. The ratchet-style pivot on the Tilthead eliminates any sudden movement when the screw is tightened.

Solid and compact
I greatly prefer this umbrella mount over all of the other, more generic mounts out there for several reasons. First, its very solid, strong metal construction. The swivel ratcheting mechanism is super strong with big teeth that make for a very positive engagement. Although the degree of tilt between clicks is larger than other mounts, giving you less options to fine tune its tilt, Ive found that the orientation of the clicks are aligned in a way that allows umbrellas to be perfectly angled on either the second or third click. I really like the machined strobe attachment, that is essentially permanently fixed to the mount, it wont twist off. I do have to both screw it closed AND ratchet the strobe closed to the shoe. I had my strobe fall off once before realizing this. The umbrella hole is straight and not angled, so it is what it is. It is also somewhat sharp on its machined edges so it has created little cuts in my umbrella shafts, but its no big deal. Lastly, I like that the tilt knob is a disc knob and not a huge lever. This makes the whole thing much more compact therefore stuffing into a cramped bag much easier.
Very Disappointing
I opted for the Lastolite tilthead over the generic brands, expecting better quality, but I was very disappointed. The first time I used the units the hotshoe clamp was stuck and it took a fair amount of force with a screwdriver to free it so I could open it wide enough to mount the flash. Then I tried tightening the clamp for the umbrella shaft, and the rubber knob fell off as soon as I turned it. There is a socket under the rubber cover for an Allen wrench, and your need one to be able to tighten the clamping screw enough to hold an umbrella in place - unfortunately, the unit doesn't come with the wrench. I made the mistake of throwing away the packaging before I tried the two units I bought, or I would have returned them to .
Great Product
While ago I purchased 3 of them They're very flexible also very light weight. Just little over quarter pound Is great for me. light weight It make sense I had those 1lb which was adding more weight on top of stand wasn't necessary. Adding a 3 lb. to the stand stability was the ticket. I hate to over do I love to pick it up with my finger because I moved way to frequent. So this is just perfect for me. After all these years fount practical to avoid Weight and that works mush better. Thanks the B& selections:

Works as expected
It works as expected, allowing me to tilt umbrellas and small softboxes when using my speedlight. It is durable but I would prefer a lever type adjusting clamp.

Just what I was looking for for mt external flash. I have bought several other brands in the past that did not work for me, but this was is Spot on! Great Product!
Strong and compact, great ratcheting.
Great, solid construction with a sleek, matte black, somewhat textured finish. The ratcheting mechanism on the pivot is excellent, with thick, deep teeth and firm spring loading. This makes for very positive engagement and I never worry about it slipping. I'd imagine this could withstand a good many falls with umbrella/strobe attached and not break. Cold shoe mount is precision machined too, with a solid lock. I have found that I need to both screw the locking mechanism down AND engage the flash lock to hold it on. The mechanism doesn't screw closed enough to hold the flash alone. One small caveat is that the umbrella shaft hole isn't angled, it's straight. While this allows the mount to be used the same front or back, some may desire an angled hole.
Excellent and highly portable
Well made and highly portable. Haven't used it much yet, but I think it's great so far. May not be as flexible or heavy duty as some other tiltheads but it's very portable and lightweight.
