Schoeps DESERT ISLAND SET MK 2S Overview
The matte-gray Schoeps Desert Island Stereo Set with MK 2S Capsules is a versatile microphone kit designed for capturing high-quality stereo recordings. It includes two CMC 1U miniature Colette microphone preamps, two MK 2S omnidirectional matched capsules (with their matching certificate), and two SG20 stand clamps, all packaged in an ultracompact Peli hard case for protection. The set is particularly useful for field-recording applications due to its portability and rugged build.
The MK 2S capsule's moderate, high-frequency-response elevation above 4 kHz (at 0°) compensates for high-frequency losses caused by a slightly increased, diffuse field amount when used near the reverberation radius. Its somewhat brighter sound (compared to the MK 2 and MK 2H) makes the MK 2S ideal for A/B stereo, Decca Tree, or as a room microphone, especially in larger rooms.
The matte gray Schoeps CMC 1 U is a miniature Colette Series microphone amplifier offering uncompromising high fidelity in a lightweight and ultracompact form factor for studio recording, broadcast, and live stage applications. Presented as an alternative to the renowned Schoeps CMC 6 amplifier, the CMC 1 U is compatible with all existing MK mic capsules and Colette active accessories (all available separately).
It features a balanced XLR output, compliance with 12 or 48V phantom power, and low current consumption. Its Schoeps RFI Shield provides high immunity from RF interference for a clean, low-noise signal. The CMC 1 U supports the high maximum SPLs tolerated by the various MK mic capsules (available separately).

The matte gray MK 2S Microphone Capsule from Schoeps comes as a matched pair, and exhibits a slight high-frequency emphasis for frontal sound incidence, with only a slight rolloff of high frequencies off axis and in the reverberant sound field. This frequency response characteristic falls between that of the MK 2 and the MK 3 capsules, making this capsule suitable for a wide range of applications.
This capsule has proven particularly useful in 2- and 3-microphone stereo arrays, where its placement near the reverberation radius of the sound field presents a sonically balanced pickup favored by many recording engineers.
The Schoeps SG20 Microphone Stand Adapter is designed to stand mount microphones measuring 20mm or 21mm in diameter. The SG20 features a strong metal housing and a durable plastic clamp. Its base is threaded for 5/8"-27 stands, and a threaded adapter is included to accommodate 3/8" and 1/2" mounting. The angle is continuously variable.
